Norwich City can confirm the signing of defender Michael Rose from Stockport County on loan until the end of the season after paperwork was completed this morning.

Full-back Rose follows striker Oli Johnson in making the switch from the Hatters to Carrow Road this month.

The 27-year-old began his career as a trainee at Manchester United but left in 2001 to join Conference side Chester City.

After a year with the Blues, he spent two seasons with Hereford United, losing in the Conference play-off semi-finals to Aldershot on penalties in 2003-04.

Despite the shoot-out defeat, Rose stepped up to league football joining Yeovil Town. He played in all but six games as the Glovers won the League Two title in his first season at Huish Park.

In the summer of 2006, the free-kick specialist joined Stockport County, helping them to promotion to League One via the play-offs in 2007-08 beating Paul Lambert’s Wycombe Wanderers in the semi-finals.

Rose made 123 appearances for Stockport in all competitions in his three-and-a-half years with the Hatters, scoring nine times and turned in a man of the match performance earlier in the season in the 3-1 defeat to City at Edgeley Park.

In total the Salford-born defender has amassed over 300 appearances in all competitions, scoring 20 goals.

Local press reports have tipped midfield player Anthony Barry to be the first to leave the Deva Stadium when the January Transfer window opens in a matter of hours.

Reports suggest Barry may well have played his last game for the troubled Deva Stadium club, with at least two clubs preparing to offer the former Everton trainee a contract.

Barry, along with a number of other Chester first team squad players, have been watched regularly over the past months as the Football Conference basement clubs financial woes gathered momentum. A number of the senior players are still awaiting their November salaries, and the December wages become due next week.

It is understood that ambitious Fleetwood Town are preparing to offer Barry terms, whilst Wrexham are also known to be keen to add the midfielder to their payroll.

Barry suffered an unfortunate training ground hamstring injury last Wednesday which will keep him out of action until next week, and with the transfer window opening on Friday it is expected he will move on.

Barry is in his second full season with City, after joining from Yeovil Town in June 2008. The player started his career as a junior with Everton, before enjoying spells with Coventry City and Accrington Stanley, he joined Yeovil in January 2006.

Other City players who have been watched by other clubs recently and could well be on the move in the transfer window are central defender Shaun Kelly, former Wales youth international midfield player James Owen, and ex Everton striker Nick Chadwick. Any outgoings will reduce Chester’s playing strength to farcical levels, which will make the hardworking City boss Jim Harvey’s job even more difficult.
